Collection: Leonetto Cappiello

Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) is an Italian artist and poster designer who shaped the visual language of modern advertising in early twentieth century Paris. He came from caricature, used to saying everything with one figure and a clear gesture, and carried that directness into his work on advertising posters. The result is a style that works like a visual sign in the city: you see it, you get it, you remember it.

Cappiello worked for major brands of drinks, coffee, cigarettes, food and fashion and turned their products into memorable visual characters. He did not build complex stories, he captured a single moment that hits the senses directly: taste, aroma, intoxication, pleasure.
