Leonetto Cappiello (1875 - 1942)
He is often called the father of modern advertising. A self-taught artist from Livorno, Cappiello arrived in Paris in the late nineteenth century as a caricaturist for the satirical press. In poster art he found his true artistic voice: the first to pull the figure from the background, with pure colors and stark contrast. His posters for drinks, fashion, food and entertainment brands, changed the visual language of advertising for generations to come.
