Designed by Plinio Codognato as a lithographic poster in 1923, with a specific moment in mind: the European Grand Prix held at the Monza circuit. The composition reflects real competition energy, not fantasy, a Fiat 805 would go on to win the race that year. Plinio Codognato pushes speed straight at the viewer. Two cars dominate the foreground, compressed, loud, and almost colliding with the frame, while the background dissolves into motion. It is widely considered his most powerful poster, built to hit instantly and physically.

Plinio Codognato (1878-1940)
Plinio Codognato was one of the best Italian Graphic artists of the 20th Century. He designed around 150 posters for commercial products, theatre and sporting events. Codognato made his mark with many spectacular automobile designs and is best known for his works for Fiat, Ansaldo, Pirelli, Cinzano and Campari as well as his auto racing posters.
