From a small studio in Stellenbosch, surrounded by vineyards and mountain mist, Dirkie Nell paints the world in saturated colour and simplified forms. The South African artist works in mixed media and digital illustration, in a painterly naive style with a dose of playfulness. Her subjects return to warm, familiar scenes: a woman with her cat, a bouquet from the market, a slice of cake in afternoon light. The palette always includes coral, mustard and mint tones.
